Before reading this book I came across a quote from Jack London that intrigued me, "Dig should be the legitimate father of all self-faith." And to be reading Jason's book that corresponded with that quote felt like a synchronicity. This is what Jason does he digs down deep into the role his family played into his & his brother's psyche, finding the unconscious bits that shape someone through out their life. It not only works as mythic narrative of his own but as a self-reflection to the reader.When I read his brothers memoir, "Dandy in the Underworld" I came out of its dark humor and melancholy sadness left with questions that I wanted answered. I wondered how could someone so honest, sympathetic and full of wit could just throw himself into the abyss of misery; there had to be something buried beneath. Jason demystified the facade behind his brothers antics with astonishing honesty.
Whether you're a fan of Sebastian Horsley or looking for a burrowing soul search of your own. I would recommend this book because beneath the words Jason hands you the introspective tools through concise storytelling.
